Sarah will cover materials and techniques when using paper in collaged backgrounds, and then how to seal those surfaces in preparation to paint in either acrylic or oil. Sarah will also talk about how she uses Procreate when designing collaged paintings.
Cathy will talk about how to utilize venetian plaster in your acrylic or oil paintings to add subtle texture or bold embellishments. Learn the proper adhesion process to make the plaster archival and resistant to cracking.
Lisa will share how to add illuminating gold leaf to your paintings!
She’ll focus on proper application of gold leaf to both acrylic and oil paintings, gaining understanding of this specialized approach while exploring its creative potential.
Elaine will share an introduction to painting with gouache - a vibrant opaque medium that can be reworked and layered. It’s ideal for plein air because it is easily portable and suitable for travel.
Supplies needed:
Artists may bring their own work that they wish to embellish with either collage or gold leaf.

Join Anne to learn how to capture the key of light in nature using methods from the Impressionist & Colorist traditions. In both these schools of painting, artists went beyond “copying” color and instead used varied color relationships to capture the beauty outdoors.

In this fun-filled day of color-play, you will learn how to:
• Create a sense of visual “vibration” with color
• Use complementary colors, contrast in light and shadow, and warm/cool temperatures of color to your advantage
• Control your edges and make a brushstroke count
• Build layers of paint for visual excitement
Come ready to explore and see color in a new light!
Supplies needed:
Plein air gear including:
Palette and tripod
Brushes, paint colors (any colors, oil and/or Acrylic)
Can or small bucket for solvent or water
Paper towels
Sketchpad and pen
Bugspray
Drinking water

Watercolor is a beautiful medium, with qualities and effects that are truly unique. Learning to work with it is a bit of a “dance” because of the way it behaves.

In this very detailed and informative class, we'll cover tools and supplies (including what to avoid!) so you'll be able to confidently walk into any art supply store and buy what you need. You’ll also see ideal plein air and travel recommendations for this easy-to-transport medium.
You’ll receive a handout with explanations and buying suggestions, and also some sample watercolors to take home.
After we go over materials, you’ll learn some brushwork and techniques to illustrate a few of the ways that watercolor can be used. We'll also produce at least one finished work where you can try out your new skills.
Supplies needed:
$12 materials fee covers paper, paint and brushes in class, and a printed handout and watercolor samples to take with you.

I will be working with water miscible oils, as well as gouache.
I will have some extra canvases and paint available for you to try out for an additional $5.
Although I don’t usually work in watercolor, most of the class will pertain to all mediums.
